Court Marriage Document Checklist

Essential Documents (Both Partners)

Original citizenship certificate with 2 photocopies for each partner.

Certificate from your local Ward Office confirming unmarried status. Valid for 3 months from issue date.

6 recent passport-size photos per person (white background, formal attire).

For age verification. SLC/SEE certificate with date of birth is acceptable.

Conditional Documents (If Applicable)

Court-issued divorce decree if previously married. Must be final, not pending.

Official death certificate from the municipality/VDC if previous spouse is deceased.

Written consent from parents/guardians if either party is under 21 years of age.

If your current address differs from citizenship, provide migration certificate from Ward Office.

Witness Requirements

Two adult witnesses (age 20+) with valid citizenship certificates. Can be friends or family members.

Photocopies of both witnesses' citizenship certificates.

How to Get Unmarried Certificate from Ward Office

Step 1: Visit your local Ward Office where your citizenship is registered.

Step 2: Fill out the application form for "Abibaahit Praman Patra".

Step 3: Submit citizenship copy and 2 passport photos.

Step 4: Pay the nominal fee (NPR 100-500 depending on municipality).

Step 5: Collect certificate same day or next working day.

Age Requirement: Both parties must be at least 20 years old (National Civil Code 2074).
Consent: Marriage must be with free consent of both parties.
Prohibited Relations: Marriage between close blood relatives is not permitted.
Processing Time: Same-day registration possible with complete documents.
Court Fee: Government court fee is approximately NPR 500-1000.
Certificate Collection: Marriage certificate issued within 1-3 working days.
Registration: Marriage must be registered at the District Court of either partner's permanent address.
